PAST PROGRAM

This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!

Description: Appalachian Crafting

Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park

Crafting is a longstanding Appalachian tradition, born out of necessity and grounded in self-reliance. Traditional crafts often carried distinctive features that reflected their makers and the regions they came from. While we may no longer craft out of necessity, we can still honor these traditions and share our own stories through handmade work.

This program is recommended for ages 7 and above. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 6:00 PM. Be prepared to walk a short distance up a couple of steps and a small hill to the Hickory Ride Outdoor Classroom. For more details about the route we will take, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria.

The program will touch on a brief history of Appalachian crafting and how it developed over time. Participants will be taught to make one of two crafts: the angels eye or a finger weaved book mark. The program will begin at 6:00 PM EST and conclude at 7:30 PM.

The cost of this program is $3.00 per participant. Children under 5 are free with a paying adult.

Please come prepared with good walking shoes and a water bottle. Pets are not allowed on programs, except service animals.
