Description: Winter Solstice Hike
Location: Fiery Gizzard State Park
Join Ranger Bovee for a special Winter Solstice hike through one of Fiery Gizzard State Park’s most dramatic landscapes. As the longest night of the year approaches, we’ll take advantage of the daylight to see how the changing season shapes the plateau’s forests, cliffs, and waterfalls.
This guided hike will follow the Climbers Loop to the base of Foster Falls, traveling through rocky terrain, past impressive rock faces, and up along the gorge rim before reaching the peaceful overlook at Esther Falls then returning to Foster Falls trailhead.
What to Expect
Distance: ~2-2.5 miles (moderate to strenuous)
Terrain: Rocky, uneven footing with steep sections
COLD WEATHER!
What to Bring
Sturdy hiking shoes, water, warm layers, a headlamp or flashlight (we should be out before sunset but just in case), and curiosity.
Meeting Location
Foster Falls Trailhead.
Weather
If trails are unsafe due to winter conditions or heavy rain, the hike may be canceled. Registrants will be notified by email the evening before.
