Description: Native Seed Collection and Planting Workshop
Location: Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park
Do you love native flowers and want to support wildlife and biodiversity but don’t know where to start? Join Ranger Lauren for a native seed collection and planting workshop!
This program is recommended for adults who would like to learn the basics of native seed collection and planting.
During this program we will discuss the importance of native flowers, ethics surrounding seed collection, what and what not to collect, where and how to collect, seed preparation, planting and storage of seeds. After our discussion we will look at seeds collected from our pollinator garden such as butterfly weed, purple coneflower, and wild bergamot. In our hands-on portion of the class, you will create a seed jug to cold stratify this fall and help seed a native pollinator garden here at the park.
This program will be roughly 2 hours. To make the most of this experience, we recommended dressing comfortably for indoor/outdoor activities, wearing sturdy walking shoes, and brining water.
In the event of inclement weather this program will be cancelled.
