This event is now history, but we have many more wonderful programs in store for you!
Work your way towards earning a very special Girl Scout Badge (trail adventure) while exploring the amazing ecosystem of the French Broad River! In this hands-on program, scouts will learn from a park ranger how to prepare for a hike to the river and what they should be looking out when they are by the water. Then the ranger will guide scouts on a hike to the river as they investigate what lives beneath the surface of the water and how those creatures help us understand the health of the river. We’ll be using dip nets and lifting up rocks to search for fish, insects, mollusks, and more in the shallow shoals of the river as part of a river exploration game. This is a great opportunity to learn about aquatic ecosystems while brownie and daisy scouts work on their trail adventure badge!
Please wear sturdy water shoes (no flip flops or slides) and clothes that can get a little wet and muddy. Don’t forget sunscreen, a towel, and drinking water. All other equipment will be provided.
Meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:30am and we’ll walk about 2 miles round trip as well as lots of activity in the river. This program is for Girl Scout Brownies and Daisy (grades K-3), and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
The cost of the program is $6 per kid.
